SpaceBall and SpaceMouse increase the intuitive operation of VISI-Series and machining STRATEGIST

LOS GATOS, California - January 13, 2003 - Vero International Software's world leading CAD/CAM products for the tool making industry, VISI-Series release 10.1 and machining STRATEGIST release 4.2, now both support the SpaceBall® and the SpaceMouse® motion controllers from 3Dconnexion. Using two hands together to intuitively manipulate the model and execute the commands provides a more natural method of working with complex mould tools and progressive die tools.

Keeping the overall workflow fluid by allowing the operator to work naturally with both hands, makes working with VISI-Series and machining STRATEGIST less tiring and allows intuitive and precise manipulation and positioning of the part in 3D space.

By simply moving the pressure sensitive ball or cap, pushing pulling or twisting movements made by the operator will immediately translate into on-screen motion making it possible to carry out very complex maneuvers quickly and intuitively.

Traditionally, single-handed control methods using only the standard mouse result in users working in fits and starts, as they move between commands and object control. This not only affects creativity, but by requiring extra steps, it adds extra time to the design process for every project.

Using the SpaceBall or SpaceMouse with one hand and a standard mouse with the other hand enables manipulation of the model and the issuing of commands to happen in one continuous movement.

Marc Freebrey Technical Manager for Vero comments, ``The introduction of the SpaceBall and SpaceMouse will give our users an opportunity, with intuitive operation, to get even more productivity from their Vero software.''

Programmable buttons on the SpaceBall and SpaceMouse further increase the efficiency of the tool designer by providing short cuts to the most common commands in VISI-Series and machining STRATEGIST, while buttons to increase and decrease the sensitivity of the device allow each user to tailor the movement of the ball or cap to suit their own working preference.

``Knowledge based tool design and manufacture brings huge time saving benefits to toolmakers. The addition of 3Dconnexion motion controllers means that tool designers can examine and check models much more naturally, quickly finding potential problem areas to arrive at the best design solution,'' said Barry Smith, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for 3Dconnexion.
