July 14, 2003
Breakthrough SpaceTraveler Offers Portable Solutions for High-End Design on Notebooks.
LOS GATOS, California - July 14, 2003 - 3Dconnexion®, a Logitech® ( SWX:LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) company, and the leading developer of motion controllers, announced today the release of SpaceTraveler™ - a high performance, portable device that joins their award winning line of SpaceBall®, SpaceMouse®, CadMan® and SpaceNavigator™ controllers. The SpaceTraveler's breakthrough ultra compact design is one tenth the size and one third the weight of a standard motion controller, making it the ideal companion for a notebook workstation and well suited for all environments where small size is a requirement. A matching, portable Logitech mouse is bundled, offering a complete solution for a powerful two-handed work style.
"With the SpaceTraveler, I maintain my continuity and productivity on the road and get the most from my Unigraphics® CAD software on my notebook computer," said Graham Wood, Senior Design Engineer at Moog, Inc, a worldwide manufacturer of precision control components and systems. "Using the SpaceTraveler reduces my design time, and gives me the control over my CAD products that I've come to expect from my workstation, but in a portable package. SpaceTraveler blends form with function: its modern design and high-tech look fit well with the cutting edge products we produce."
"In addition to the exciting possibilities with high-end design on notebooks, the SpaceTraveler is ideally suited for markets that have requested smaller sized, yet full-featured motion controllers," said Wolfgang Hausen, CEO of 3Dconnexion. "We have seen great interest from new customers in the Japanese, Korean and Chinese markets."
The SpaceTraveler brings together a brushed stainless steel base and a soft-coated titanium gray cap for an exciting sleek design. Eight illuminated blue buttons allow designers the ability to define shortcuts for frequent design functions, while 3Dconnexion's patented 6-degree-of-freedom optical sensor offers unsurpassed performance, reliability and control. One hand uses the SpaceTraveler to position and control the 3D object, while the other hand creates and annotates the object with the bundled Logitech MouseMan® Traveler™. Productivity is increased up to 30%, while discomfort is reduced by eliminating 50% of repetitive mouse movements.
The SpaceTraveler supports a wide array of over 100 design and analysis applications including the full range of popular CAD applications, including AutoCAD®, Autodesk Inventor®, CATIA®, Pro/ENGINEER®, Solid Edge®, SolidWorks® and Unigraphics®. It also supports and enhances productivity for various office applications such as Internet Explorer and Microsoft® Office.
The SpaceTraveler is available immediately through 3Dconnexion's worldwide reseller and distributor channels.
